This is an example of my B flat wooden whistles, I am actually playing the one in the photo myself, but can of course make more if desired. This one is made from Beech. Being in two sections it is tuneable.
Dymondwood whistle which does not require maintenance. Available in a vast range of colours. This particular whistle was made as a gift for a friend, but these can be made to order. The ‘wood’ comes from the U.S. and it is birch I think but it is made of thin veneers all laminated, dyed, heated and compressed to almost half the original thickness – it results in a completely stable, really smooth dense product that looks stunning and doesn’t even require oils or waxes to give a finish. Tuneable.
This flute plays very nicely, has plenty of volume, it features imitation ivory mounts. The wood Bocote is a Mexican rosewood. Leather case included.
Boxwood Flute, very good tone and volume, it has slight warping which is sometimes the case with this wood, which wasn’t cut from billets split along the grain..there is no negative effect on the tone however. Leather case included.
Example of a boxwood D whistle. Two-piece and tuneable. Nice tone. Usually I make these to order, and depending on workload should be avilable in about a week.
Apologies for slightly untidy looking photo…. Beautiful Cocobolo Flute in D. Three-piece. No tuning slide, and, as usual has thicker areas at the joints, rather than metal bands. Has a nice, smooth tone.
I occasionally make hand-crafted uilleann pipe chanters, often for myself but will also take orders. This particular one is made from white-thorn, a bush which often grows in hedgerows, for stock control – this piece was collected from my own farm. I can obtain most other woods however, on request. I currently play this one in the photo. It just has slightly less power, and brightness, compared to blackwood for example but is nonetheless a pleasant tone, and a pretty wood. I have little or no waiting list at present.
